Kantar Media Appoints Former WPP CEO Mark Read as Chairman:Kantar Media has announced the appointment of Mark Read, former chief executive of WPP, as chairman of its newly established Board of Directors. The move marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to strengthen leadership as it enters a new phase of global expansion.
A Veteran Leader Joins at a Critical Moment
Read, who led WPP from 2018 to 2025, brings extensive experience in advertising, digital transformation, and media innovation. Earlier in his career, he shaped WPP’s long-term strategy, led its transition into digital through WPP Digital, and served as CEO of the global digital powerhouse Wunderman.
Moreover, during his WPP tenure, Read accelerated the group’s investments in artificial intelligence. He supported the creation of WPP Open and oversaw the acquisition of UK-based AI firm Satalia, positioning WPP as a technology-forward marketing group.
Read Commits to Strengthening Media Clarity
In a statement, Read expressed enthusiasm for the new role.
“Kantar Media serves a unique and essential role in the media ecosystem – helping advertisers, agencies, media owners and platforms understand how people are consuming media and how best to direct their media investments. I am delighted to join Kantar Media’s board as Chairman, and to support Patrick and his leadership team in bringing greater clarity to the media ecosystem at a time when audience behaviour is changing more rapidly than ever,” he said.
Leadership Welcomes Strategic Expertise
Patrick Béhar, CEO of Kantar Media, praised Read’s extensive industry background.
“We are honoured that Mark has chosen to join Kantar Media’s Board at a pivotal moment in our company’s journey,” Béhar said. “Mark combines deep strategic thinking with practical experience in transformation, data and AI. Most importantly, he shares our ambition to transform the industry by bringing clarity to a complex landscape. I have every confidence that with his support Kantar Media will continue to deliver best-in-class results for our clients globally.”
Appointment Follows Major Ownership Transition
The decision comes shortly after Kantar Media’s sale from Kantar Group and Bain Capital to H.I.G. Capital, a transaction completed in August. The ownership shift marks a renewed push to accelerate the company’s innovation, investment, and competitive positioning.
Nishant Nayyar, Managing Director at H.I.G. Capital, emphasised how the appointment aligns with the firm’s vision.
“Mark’s appointment underscores our commitment to backing Kantar Media with exceptional leadership. His deep industry knowledge and proven track record in driving transformation and innovation will be invaluable as Patrick and his team take the company into its next phase of growth,” he said.
