Netflix Appoints Kumar Kanagasabapathy as Director of Brand Partnerships for Asia Pacific: Netflix has appointed seasoned marketing strategist Kumar Kanagasabapathy as its new Director of Brand Partnerships for Asia Pacific, strengthening the streaming giant’s leadership team as it accelerates the growth of its advertising business across the region.

Kanagasabapathy announced his new role in a LinkedIn post, marking the end of his tenure at IPG Mediabrands and a brief six-month transition at Omnicom Media following the acquisition. Expressing enthusiasm about his new position, he said he looks forward to helping brands become part of stories that resonate with audiences across Asia Pacific.

“I’m excited to bring these lessons to Netflix, where I’ll be helping brands become part of stories that move people,” Kanagasabapathy wrote.

Most recently, Kanagasabapathy served as Chief Strategy Officer for IPG Mediabrands Asia Pacific, a position he assumed in January 2025. Based in Singapore, he led strategic transformation across 14 markets, overseeing the evolution of strategy and product offerings for the network’s agencies, including Initiative and UM.

Prior to his Asia Pacific leadership role, he held several global strategy positions within Rufus, IPG Mediabrands’ dedicated Amazon agency. His responsibilities included serving as Global Chief Strategy Officer, Head of Global Strategy, and Head of Strategy for the U.S. business, where he guided strategic planning across Amazon’s retail, entertainment, brand, and B2B businesses.

His career also includes senior strategy roles at MediaCom, Horizon Media, and Maxus in Los Angeles, building a reputation for driving business growth through innovative marketing strategies and integrated brand planning.

Reflecting on his two-decade career, Kanagasabapathy emphasized the importance of collaboration in transforming ideas into successful campaigns.

“One thing I’ve learned over twenty years is that ideas are extremely fragile. They become interesting and worth fighting for only because people challenge them, remix them, and stubbornly keep them alive long enough for the rest of the world to see,” he said.

Netflix Accelerates Advertising Expansion

Kanagasabapathy joins Netflix during a period of significant expansion for the company’s advertising business. Earlier this year, Netflix revealed that its ad-supported subscription tier had surpassed 250 million monthly active viewers worldwide, highlighting the growing popularity of its advertising-supported offering.

The streaming platform also announced plans to introduce its ad-supported service to 15 additional international markets beginning in 2027, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, further strengthening its presence across Asia.

Alongside market expansion, Netflix continues to invest heavily in advanced advertising technologies, including AI-powered advertising solutions, contextual targeting, and enhanced audience planning capabilities. These initiatives are designed to provide advertisers with more sophisticated tools to connect with viewers while positioning Netflix as a major force in the global digital advertising ecosystem.
