Yong Yuan Appointed CEO of Ogilvy Group China in Major Leadership Move: Global marketing and communications giant Ogilvy has announced the promotion of Yong Yuan as the new Chief Executive Officer of Ogilvy Group China, marking a significant leadership transition for one of the country’s most influential advertising networks.

The appointment is effective immediately and reflects Ogilvy’s continued focus on strengthening its integrated communications capabilities and accelerating growth in one of the world’s most competitive advertising markets. In his new role, Yong Yuan will oversee the group’s people, clients, operations, and business growth across China, while fostering closer collaboration among Ogilvy’s advertising, public relations, social media, digital experience, and influence practices.

Veteran Leader Takes the Helm
Prior to his appointment, Yong Yuan served as President of Ogilvy Advertising China and President of Ogilvy Shanghai. Having joined Ogilvy in 2011, he has played a key role in driving the agency’s transformation, business expansion, and creative excellence across the Chinese market.
A seasoned advertising professional with more than two decades of experience in China and international markets, Yong is widely recognized for championing creativity, innovation, and digital transformation. Under his leadership, Ogilvy Shanghai became one of the agency’s fastest-growing and most awarded offices, earning recognition at prestigious global competitions including the Effie Awards, One Show, Clio Awards, and SABRE Awards.
Strengthening the Ogilvy-Grey Network
As CEO, Yong Yuan will work to enhance collaboration across the wider Ogilvy Group China portfolio, including both Ogilvy and Grey. While the two agencies will continue to maintain their distinct identities and serve clients independently, the new leadership structure is designed to create greater synergies and integrated solutions for clients.
Yong will report directly to Chris Reitermann, Chief Executive Officer of WPP Greater China. Industry observers view the appointment as part of a broader trend among global agency networks to simplify structures and deliver more unified client experiences in an increasingly digital and data-driven marketplace.
A Career of Steady Advancement
Yong Yuan’s rise to the top position follows a series of leadership promotions over the past decade. In 2016, he was elevated to Group Managing Director in Shanghai, and in 2022 he assumed the role of President of Ogilvy Advertising China, expanding his responsibilities nationwide. These appointments reflected the confidence Ogilvy’s leadership had in his ability to drive growth and transformation across the organization.
According to company profiles, Yong is a graduate of Harvard Business School and has been a strong advocate for combining creativity with business effectiveness to help brands achieve sustainable growth.
